EDUCATION & AWARDS There are many awards within the surf life saving movement, but the most commonly held are the Surf Rescue Certificate, Bronze Medallion, Advanced Resuscitation Certificate, Defibrillation Certificate, IRB Crew Certificate and Silver Medallion for IRB Drivers. More and more, members are also building on their qualifications by attaining their Senior First Aid, Silver Medallion Basic Beach Management (Patrol Captain) or Silver Medallion Advanced Emergency Care certificates. This site deals with these awards in brief, with the aim of giving those new to surf life saving an understanding of the requirements for each award. Courses are conducted at Elouera Club level, Surf Life Saving Sydney branch level, and NSW state level by the Australian Lifesaving Academy. The links under each award refer to information supplied the Australian Lifesaving Academy: http://www.surflifesaving.com.au/www/463/1001127/displayarticle/1001230.html. To register for a course or for further information on any surf life saving education award, please email Elouera at elouera@bigpond.net.au. You must be a member of surf life saving to attend a course. Membership applications can be found at http://www.slsa.com.au/site/_content/resource/00001272-docsource.pdf. You will also be required to complete a Working with Kids form: http://www.kids.nsw.gov.au/uploads/documents/wwcc_form4.pdf. PROFICIENCY DATES 08 Please note it is compulsory for all award holders to maintain their proficiencies. Failure to do so will compromise the Club’s ability to roster you on patrols or water safety duties. Competitors will not be able to compete – simple as that.
