29th TRADIES SURF AWARENESS CLINIC

“Benefitting the Community together”

Our 29th Tradies Surf Awareness Clinic was successfully conducted during the past week of, Monday 10th to Friday 14th with some 316 children between the ages of 7 and 12 in attendance all of whom enjoyed the fine weather and favourable seas for the week. The children came from many areas of Sydney with some coming from the western and southern suburbs of Sydney.

The number of children was much the same as the past few years and the number of volunteer members (104) contributed to a very satisfying result for the event. These volunteer members aged between 13 and 78 devoted their valuable time to the week’s activities with emphasis being placed upon enjoyment for themselves as well as the children.

The club’s major sponsor, the Tradies again sponsored the event and their generous support enabled the event to continue with the excellent level of organisation and professionalism that it has established over the 29 years of its existence. Elouera is forever grateful for the ready support that the Tradies has given and it is hoped that such support will continue for years to come for this popular annual community project. The club is receiving letters of appreciation and congratulations from parents whose children had attended the clinic with assurances that their children will return in future.

Other supporting sponsors included:

Kellogg’s                                                             NSW Cancer Council

McDonalds Caringbah                                      Bakers Delight, Cronulla                             Caringbah Leisure Centre                            Fardoulis Nuts and Sweets

Darrell Lea                                                          Sutherland Shire Lifeguards

Sincere appreciation is also extended to the volunteer members and friends for their dedicated assistance, for it is due to their ready involvement and support that continues to make the clinic week so successful. It is again pleasing to see that a number of Tradies Board members again assisted during the week and it is expected that these Directors will continue to contribute in this manner.

Whilst the weather generally was favourable the first few days saw many of the children treated for marine stingers all of which were dealt with in a very efficient many to minimise the discomfort to the victims.

The week concluded on the Friday with the usual presentation of certificates and gift bags to the children by our VIP guests and an appreciation dinner at the Tradies in the evening for those members who gave their time during the week. This night was again well received with young members being involved in the formalities with the presentation of certificates and gifts.

However, resulting from a last minute innovation by the members, some $1180.00 was readily collected from the parents and children in attendance, towards the QLD Flood Relief Fund as proof that the “good old Aussie Community spirit” is very much alive.

Overall, the ‘team effort’ by all members involved was one of which Elouera can be justly proud and it has been a privilege to have been involved in the event.     WELL DONE EVERYONE!

Please note:-  The 2012 clinic will be conducted during the period Monday 9 to Friday 13, January and further details will be publicised later in the year.
